SpikeTV
seems to have another hit on their hands. The show is called
Oblivious, and it's the game show you didn't know you were on.
Hosted by Regan Burns, it's almost like a 21st century Candid Camera
show with a twist.
Here's the twist. Not only do
these people have no idea that they're being taped, but they're also
competing for cash prizes as well. Allow me to lay it all out for
you. The host sets up shop in a different spot each time.
Sometimes he's pretending to karate instructor, a warehouse worker, a
retail store employee, or basically any other regular guy. The
unsuspecting contestant comes in to either buy something, have a service
done, learn something or whatever. Regan always starts things
normally by playing his part seriously. During the course of
normal conversation, Regan might bring up an odd ball name like Evel
Knievel. Then he'll say, "What was he again? Daredevil or
Comic Strip Hero?" ... The person will answer the question,
having absolutely no idea that they're doing it for cash.
The conversation continues until
Regan has asked 5 questions. At the end, Regan lets them know that
they're on Oblivious, the game show they didn't know they were on, and that they've won money. It's $20 per
correct answer, which isn't much, but everyone seems very happy to get
it.
To switch things up a bit, after
tricking the contestant, he sometimes offers them to do the same thing
he just did to the next person. He speaks to them on an earpiece,
feeding them the script. This time, the contestant is asking
questions (to a new contestant), and they're earning $100 for each
question the new guy gets right. (The new guy only gets $20 for
each right answer.) Confused yet? It's not that difficult.
Just watch it and you'll get it right away.
Overall, Oblivious is quite fun, and
wildly entertaining. One of my favorite parts of every episode
actually happens right before every commercial. Regan walks down
the street, stops a random person, and asks them a question. If
they answer correctly, he hands over $20, and walks off without an
explanation. The people usually stand there in disbelief, and it's
quite funny to see.
I recommend you check out
Oblivious right away! It's quite funny, and definitely worth the time.
It generally airs on Tuesday nights on SpikeTV, but you can check your
local listing for the appropriate show times. (Or, check
