Don't Get Eliminated!

As you might have noticed over the past few months, TNN has recently shed it's country music image and has become the First Network for Men.  They've changed their name to Spike TV (after a pointless battle with Spike Lee over the name) and things have just started to get interesting.  Besides WWE programming, one of the flagship shows is a little show called "Most Extreme Elimination Challenge."  Known as MXC for short, the show is actually an import from Japan.  Takeshi's Castle (as it's known in Japan) is a game show with weird events and challenges, and very few prizes from what I can tell.

MXC is dubbed into English, but I'm fairly certain that the commentary has nothing to do with what the real commentators were saying originally.  Hosted by Kenny Blankenship and Vic Romano (not real people), the show simply uses the Japanese show as a skeleton for the American version.  The original show runs in the background, while Vic and Kenny talk about the what is going on.  They give the contestants funny names and occupations.  The game is always something outrageous like Dairy Workers vs. Auto Workers, or the Justice System vs. Ex Cons.  They're always making fun of the contestants, and almost everything said can be construed as something dirty.  It's always loads of fun to listen to.

Besides the hilarious commentary, the show itself is actually fun to watch.  The games are set up so that the player has almost no chance in the world of winning.  Sometimes, the player has to swing from a vine, and land on a small platform in the middle of a muddy lake.  In other events, the player must run across 10 or 12 spinning logs, again to avoid falling in a muddy lake.  They always seem to add insult to injury by making the contestants fall in the mud, but it's always fun.  I'm not exactly sure how game shows work in Japan, but they sure seem to have lots of fun when they lose.  The games are always tough, and usually only one person from either team is ever able to complete the task.  The best part is watching them fail anyhow.  They're always smacking brick walls, falling down, or taking some large objects to the head.  It's very hard to stop laughing sometimes.

Overall, the show is fun to watch and listen to.  I completely recommend that you check your local listings to see when the show airs.  Anyone who likes seeing people compete with all the energy in the world (for no prizes) should definitely tune in.  It's loads of fun to watch.  Check www.spiketv.com for MXC show times.  You won't be disappointed.
