After
10 British seasons and 6 US seasons of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?",
many people thought that there was nothing left to do with an improv
comedy show. Drew Carey thought of something.
Drew Carey's Green Screen Show features many of the
friendly faces from Whose Line (Drew, Brad Sherwood, Colin Mochrie, Greg
Proops, Chip Esten) along with a few new faces. The show is quite
similar to Whose Line, with the exception of one noticeable difference,
The Green Screen.
The show is still comprised of wacky improv comedy,
much of which comes from suggestions from the live studio audience.
The entire show is filmed on a large green screen, and animation is
added around the actors after the taping. It makes for some
interesting television.
For instance, if Colin says something silly like "I
like to bench press an elephant over my head." Poof!
Suddenly he's bench pressing an elephant. In Whose Line, you had
to imagine it was there. On the Green Screen, it's actually there.
I'm not sure if it's quite as funny to watch in the live audience, but
it's a riot at home. Drew Carey himself
said that you only need to
watch the show once to be hooked on it. That's totally true for
me. I watched the first episode and I haven't stopped since.
It's a whole new way to improv, and I hope it's on for a long time.
Check your local listings for the actual time, but
it's supposed to be on the WB at 8:30 on Thursdays. (It's actually
on UPN at 10:30 in Columbus, so your market will differ.) Check
www.greenscreenshow.com or
www.thewb.com for
more information. Just
look for the show and be sure to watch it. You'll be glad you did.
