In the German Village in Columbus, OH, is a small tavern called the Thurman
Cafe. Located on Thurman Ave, it appears to be just a regular bar that
serves food. While they do serve some typical bar food, that's not why
many people visit the Cafe.
Upon entering the small bar/restaurant area,
you'll immediately see hundreds of signs, stickers, and lots of other stuff all
over the walls. It's a highly decorated place, and you couldn't possibly
see everything if you wanted to.
Once you're done staring at the walls, you'll
start to stare at your menu. They've got sandwiches, wings, and other
regular fare, but the main attraction here is the burgers. All of the
burgers are 3/4 pounders, and they've come up with some unique ways to serve
them.
I ordered the Thurman Burger, which includes
the burger, cheese, ham, lettuce, tomato, and every other topping that they can
possibly cram on the burger. Needless to say, it was a big dripping mess,
but it was absolutely delightful. They appeared to be hand pressed
burgers, and they were seasoned just right.
Other burgers include Pizza Burgers, Mushroom
Burgers, Salsa Burgers, and a variety of others with mounds of toppings you
might not expect from a tavern. Best of all, all of the burgers were under
$8. They were huge, and you really can't beat the quantity/quality for the
price.
Thurman Cafe is located at 183 Thurman Rd in
Columbus. Their phone number is 614-443-1570. Expect longer waits on
busy nights (Fri-Sat) as the place isn't too big. We got in very easily on
a Sunday afternoon though. It's definitely a satisfying meal, and
I'd recommend it to anyone with a passion for great burgers.
