Studio: DreamWorks Home Entertainment

As popular as Shrek was in 2001, Shrek 2 was even more of a blockbuster in 2004.  People flocked in groves to the theaters to see it again and again, and with good reason.  Rarely does a sequel do justice to the original movie, but Shrek not only did justice, it was just as good.  The story was fresh, and things picked up almost right after they left off at the end of the first movie.

Shrek (Myers) and Fiona (Diaz) have just returned from their honeymoon, when they receive a messenger from the Kingdom of Far Far Away.  Fiona's parents, the King and Queen (Cleese, Andrews) have requested the company of Fiona and her new husband, unknowing that they are both Ogres.

Shrek & Fiona head to Far Far Away, along with their friend Donkey (Murphy), and this sets off a whirlwind adventure that completely rivals the adventure of the first movie.  Upon their arrival, Fiona's parents are shocked to see what Fiona has become, and the king is not happy.  He's under the control of a Fairy Godmother (Saunders), who insists that her son was supposed to be the one to rescue and marry Fiona.

I won't give away much of the story here, but it's just loads of fun to watch.  They introduce a few new characters, including Puss-In-Boots (Banderas).  While he's wildly popular with many people, I didn't personally care for him.  Anything that takes away from Donkey's screen time simply doesn't work for me.  He had a few funny scenes, but nothing can top Donkey's overall crazy character.

Overall, the movie was a wild ride from beginning to end, and it never slowed down at any point.  If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend picking it up today.  (If you haven't seen either Shrek movie, you can buy them both in a special package and save a few bucks too.)  I've already got my copy, but there are a few flaws with this particular edition.  It's not a special edition or collector's edition of any kind.  There are a few extras, but nothing of note.  If you're a big collector, you might consider waiting until they release a real special edition with loads of extras.  If you don't care about that kind of stuff, just pick it up today.  Shrek 2 is fabulous, and you won't be disappointed.

Overall: 10/10
