Fat Albert

Starring: Kenan Thompson, Kyla Pratt, Dania Ramirez, Shedrack Anderson III

Studio: 20th Century Fox

OK, normally, I'd be the first one to run away from another "cartoons converted to real world" kind of movie, but I must admit.  Kenan Thompson looked and played Fat Albert very well.  Sure, they dressed him up well, but it seems like he had the voice and mannerisms down well too.  Not only that, they brought Fat Albert's entire gang out of the cartoon for the real world ride.

Well, premise is pretty thin.  Fat Albert and the Gang came out of the TV to help out a girl with a problem.  (She didn't seem freaked out enough when this happens.)  The problem is supposed to be that she doesn't have friends, but they don't really spend much time on that.  Most of the movie is spent with the gang experiencing the world for the first time, as well as being updated to the 90s.  There are a few problems along the way, but nothing earth shattering.  It was a fun movie, but the story wasn't exactly there.

The real fun was watching the gang try to get along with regular people.  The gang was accurately represented, and I thought that everyone was cast well in their parts.  My only gripe was that people didn't think that it was unusual that a real looking Fat Albert and the Gang were wandering around town.  Albert even went to see Bill Cosby (in a cameo as himself) and after the initial shock, he seemed pretty OK with it too.  Doesn't anyone wonder how they came out of the TV?  Arghhh!  In any case though, it was a good hour and a half, and Kenan Thompson was great as Fat Albert.  I'd watch it again.

Overall: 7.5/10
