Anchorman:
The Legend of Ron Burgundy is just that. It's the story of a legendary
anchorman from San Diego in the 1970s. Will Ferrell plays Ron Burgundy,
the best anchor in town (or quite possibly anywhere), and he's respected
throughout the city for being the greatest. He's a true professional,
and he's clearly at the top of his game. Ron has an excellent news team,
all of which are personal friends of his, and the unit seems unstoppable.
When a dip in ratings calls for the station to
change things up a bit, the station manager (Willard) brings in a new
reporter. Veronica Corningstone (Applegate) is trying to work her way to
a place where women generally don't belong (well, in the 1970s anyhow...).
She quickly gets hooked up with Ron, and the two of them have many ups and
downs.
Both Ron and Veronica have dreams of being a
national anchor, and what was once a shared dream, eventually drives a stake
between them. They realize that they're both competing for the same
thing, and they know they're really competing against each other.
Anchorman has some extremely funny scenes, but
there are a few parts that drag along. You've got to take the good with
the bad though. It's a good story, and it's a pleasant change of pace
from a lot of the stuff that's been coming out of Hollywood lately. Most
of the movie is pretty predictable, but that doesn't make it any less
enjoyable. I had a good time watching it, and you'll probably like it as
well.
